We’re now firmly into autumn, so it’s time for us to talk about keeping your home safe AND warm as the weather worsens. With rising energy prices on the horizon for homes and businesses alike, this is no time to cut corners, and trusting a Gas Safe Engineer can save money and lives.

A serviced central heating systems uses less energy to heat your home, so it’s a money saver – but it could also be a life saver. We’ve all seen a number of gas explosions in the news recently, and the effects are devastating. We don’t want any family to go through such a traumatic event, which is why all of our engineers are Gas Safe registered. We know our stuff, and we know how to keep your home warm, your bills down, and your family safe too.

There are steps you can take to keep your home safe and warm before we hit the winter months; plan them in now so the weeks don’t slip by.

Use the Gas Safe Register

You should only ever trust a registered Gas Safe Engineer to perform any work on your central heating system; anyone else just isn’t safe. If you’ve got a problem or an emergency talk to Saltire, or visit the Gas Safe Register to find someone who is an expert at working with gas as safely as possible: visit gassaferegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500 before you let anyone into your home.

Have a working carbon monoxide alarm

Carbon monoxide is invisible, odourless, and deadly. It doesn’t take much carbon monoxide in the home to have fatal results, so it’s vital that you have a carbon monoxide monitor, and that you know they’re working.

Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning; headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse, and loss of consciousness. If you’re concerned about a carbon monoxide leak, open your doors and windows, get outside, and call the National Gas Helpline immediately on 0800 111 999.

Look after those around you

Not everyone knows about carbon monoxide, or about looking after appliances to stay safe at home. If you have vulnerable friends, family, or neighbours, why not talk to them and make sure they know how to get their boiler serviced by a trusted engineer, or make sure they’ve got the correct fire alarm system fitted? The legislation around fire alarms changed in February in Scotland, and everyone should have an interlinked wireless system fitted by now.

If your boiler needs serviced, your central heating isn’t working as well as it should, or you haven’t installed a legally compliant fire alarm system yet, talk to our 24/7 call centre. All of our customer service representatives are highly trained and know just what to do, whether you need to book an engineer visit or have a home emergency.

Saltire Facilities Management continues its enduring partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, as it is awarded an ongoing maintenance contract for solar panels across the region.

Saltire has worked in close partnership with North Lanarkshire Council for more than 20 years, providing a range of services including boiler installation, servicing and maintenance. As decarbonisation of housing stock has become increasingly important to social landlords, Saltire’s Renewables Division has grown in response to demand.

In recent years Saltire has become one of the largest providers of renewable technologies including solar panels and batteries, electric vehicle chargers, and air source heat pumps. In 2021 North Lanarkshire Council awarded Saltire a long-term contract to install renewables in sheltered housing complexes across the area; this has now been followed by the award of a solar panel maintenance contract.

This new contract will see Saltire’s Renewables Division carry out servicing and maintenance on almost 200 domestic solar panel arrays every five years. Initial maintenance visits will take place at all properties over the next two months, with recurring visits every five years after that.

Saltire’s Renewables Manager Jamies Blades, commented “The Renewables Division at Saltire has a reputation for first-class work, and of course our customer service is second to none. That’s why we have been able to build such strong relationships with key clients such as North Lanarkshire Council, and we will continue to expand our team as more decarbonisation projects take off around the country.”

Managing Director Alan Murray added, “Our relationship with North Lanarkshire Council is of vital importance, as well as being a huge source of pride, as we’re committed to providing secure long-term employment to local people. Renewables mainteance contracts are going to become increasingly vital as more homes install these technologies, and our Renewables Division is ready to work with social landlords across the country.”

Saltire Facilities Management cements it relationship with Trust Housing Association, a social landlord with which it already enjoys a strong working partnership, by being awarded a contract for boiler installations.

The contract, which is set to begin within just a few weeks, will see Saltire’s Gas Services Division complete boiler replacements in 100 properties owned by Trust Housing Association. The team will remove the existing boiler, and replace it with a brand new combi boiler, including timer and thermostat.

Residents in these homes, spread across Wishaw, Netherlee, Shotts, and Motherwell, will benefit from a more energy efficient home heating system, smaller heating bills, and a reduced carbon footprint.

This contract award also represents a strengthening relationship between Saltire and Trust Housing Association. The facilities management specialist already carries out boiler servicing and maintenance contracts for the social landlord, as well as ad hoc boiler replacement.

Saltire is the facilities management partner of choice for dozens of public sector organisations and social landlords across Scotland and North West England, and currently supports more than 100,000 homes across the country. With specialist Gas, Electrical, and Renewables Divisions, supported by a network of all-trades staff and customer service representatives, Saltire’s facilities management offering is broad, and its reputation for quality delivery and customer service is second to none.

Speaking of the contract award from Trust Housing Association, Service Delivery Director Natalie Milne commented, “Everyone at Saltire works incredibly hard to deliver for our customers, and that makes winning more contracts from existing customers especially rewarding.

Every measure taken to improve the carbon footprint of a property contributes to the country’s climate change programme, and installation of energy efficient boilers and home thermostats in homes across Scotland is making a difference.  We’re delighted to be strengthening our relationship with Trust Housing Association, and look forward to working alongside them for many years to come.”

Saltire Facilities Management and North Lanarkshire Council continue to strengthen their decades-long relationship with the award of a contract for installation and repair of commercial hot water boilers.

North Lanarkshire Council has been one of Saltire’s key clients since the company was formed over 20 years ago. The facilities management company is currently carrying out a range of contracts on behalf of the council, including delivering gas servicing, maintenance and ad-hoc boiler installations for North Lanarkshire Councils housing stock of circa 37,000 properties. Saltire also installs a range of domestic renewables for North Lanarkshire tenants, such as air source heat pumps, solar panels, and solar battery chargers.

This newly-awarded contract will see Saltire’s Gas & Central Heating Division install and repair commercial hot water boilers, in a variety of council properties including shops, schools, cemeteries, and more.

Saltire is already a strong and stable partner to many other public sector bodies and housing associations, and serves more than 100,000 homes across all regions of Scotland and into North West England. Delivering a range of services across four Divisions – Gas & Central Heating, Electrical Services, Renewables, and Call Centre Services – Saltire’s reputation for first-class delivery and 24/7 customer service makes it the partner of choice for social landlords across the country.

Speaking of the latest contract award Managing Director Alan Murray, commented “The relationship we have with North Lanarkshire Council is absolutely vital to our business, as well as being a testament to the capable and skilled team we have here at Saltire Facilities Management. This is a real division-wide effort between our Service and Repairs Team, and our Install Team.

Our broad facilities management capabilities make us the provider of choice for dozens of public sector organisations, and we’re continually adding to our team to make sure we can offer the full facilities management service.”
